6 Ways To Use AI For Email Marketing
Apr 17, 2026

In this post I’m giving you six ways you can use AI for email marketing.
All six:
Are quick to implement
Give you immediate results
Will make your business more money
But first…
Three Big Points I Want To Make Immediately
AI is important. Especially with email (a channel that businesses have a tendency to neglect), it can make your life a whole lot easier if you commit to using it. Even just a bit.
But before you dive into my six tips below, I have two very important big points you need to keep in mind:
#1: Don’t ever let AI dilute your unique point of view
As an education business owner-
People aren’t just paying for your information. They are paying for your insight.
But AI? The one thing it can’t do is share:
Your failures
Hard-won lessons
Crazy anecdotes that contain a lesson
Stories that make your audience love you a bit more
You should be using email to help with your email marketing. But if you’re going to use it to write-
Don’t let it make something that’s boring and flat (a lot of AI writing) -
Because your unique view is your one competitive advantage.
Which leads me to my second point:
#2: The trick is using AI as much as possible without getting caught.
Let that sink in.
Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but as the time of me writing this-
There’s a bit of a backlash going on against AI.
AI is useful. But as soon as people can tell that you’re using it-
They start to respect you less as a business. And that’s often when they stop buying.
Half of my six tips have nothing to do with writing-
But this “don’t get caught” thing is still important to remember. And lastly:
#3: AI is only as good as your ability to use it
ChatGPT is not a magic bullet. If you want it to work for you, you need to spend some time learning how to use it.
AI is a tool like anything else. Look up best practices. Take a course. Watch some YouTube videos. Even a couple hours of the weekend will make all the tips I share that much more effective for you.
Alright. Let’s move onto the meat and potatoes of this post:
6 Ways You Can Use AI For Email Marketing
#1: Come up with subject line ideas
Obvious one here. But it’s near and dear to my heart because it was the first way I ever used AI for email marketing.
When I was working with StoryLearning, I had to send a lot of emails:
Two promos a month
A bunch of new email sequences
Multiple content-only emails a week to different lists
And while we had a good system in place for getting a bunch of those rolled out-
The subject line was often the last thing to get finalized. And for good reason:
Doesn’t matter how great your email is if nobody opens it.
Enter AI. Just copy and paste your final copy, and then ask it to “Come up with 30 subject lines based on this email that are most likely to drive high open rates.”
And boom-
AI just became your brainstorming buddy.
#2: Reword past emails
I recommend business owners spend at least a little bit of time writing their own emails. For a couple reasons:
It sharpens your thinking
It improves your writing over time
It keeps your “unique viewpoint” intact (see #1)
But sometimes-
You just don’t have the time. That’s where AI can help:
Take an email that performed well
Upload the copy to Claude or ChatGPT
Ask it to slightly reword the email
If you are somebody that wants to reuse a proven email, but you want to mix things up-
This one is for you.
(You can go overboard here. It’s perfectly fine to resend stuff that has worked. People usually either don’t care that they saw an email before - or they don’t remember.)
#3: Understand what kinds of emails perform the best
Sticking with the “proven emails” them-
You probably already have a decent idea of the kinds of emails that actually drive engagement. Spend enough time writing and sending emails-
And you naturally start to notice patterns.
And if you’re a business owner that takes it seriously, you might even have a spreadsheet. But the bigger that spreadsheet gets…
The less you tend to use it.
(Be honest - who has the patience to scroll down 742 rows and accurately apply that to future emails?)
So here is what I recommend instead:
download your historic data (open rate, CTR, and subject line)
ask AI to give you the main takeaways on which emails were your best emails
use those insights for your future emails
The results might surprise you.
#4: Create better lead magnets
It used to be that the biggest obstacle to email list growth was making good lead magnets.
They took time. They took effort. You simply couldn’t find the space to fit it in. Well-
These days those excuses are pretty lame.
And I’m not just talking about “slap together a shitty PDF” approach here. I’m talking about:
Actionable deep dives
Data-backed experiments
Email courses people actually want to consume
Even with AI everywhere, this hasn’t changed:
You need to give people something valuable to get their email address.
And that “something valuable?”
It’s never been quicker to create with AI.
(But remember what I said at the beginning about not letting it make your writing flat and forgettable.)
#5: Research your audience
The business that understands their audience the best-
Is the business that will make the most money.
And AI? It can help you understand them.
There are a bunch of different ways to do this. But my two favorite?
Upload sales call transcripts (if you sell high ticket)
Upload surveys (if you send them)
When you do either of these things, you simply ask AI to spot any patterns. Things you need to be aware of. The “reading between the lines” stuff.
You’d be surprised how good AI is at spotting trends. The common problems that pop up. Why people bought. The objections they had before they did.
And when you give it a bunch of data to work with…
The insights it gives you can be invaluable.
#6: Examine good emails that you want to study.
One of the best ways to get good at email marketing?
Learn from the emails other businesses are sending.
Of course-
It’s one thing to create a swipe file.
It’s another thing entirely to:
Gather the emails you like
Ask AI to break down why they work
Get it to apply these lessons to your own business
Do this enough-
And you naturally start to become a better email marketer.
And your emails? They make you more money as a result.
The Final Takeaway
AI software is a tool like anything else. You are crazy for not using it at all…
But you’re equally crazy if you use it to outsource all your thinking and creativity. Remember:
Your specific point of view is what makes you, you.
Keep that in mind-
And AI might very well be the best team member you’ve hired. (And for only 20 bucks a month!)
